The CFD Process as part of the
industrial design process consists of CAD import and repair, mesh
generation, flow solution and changes to the geometry informed by
post-processing. The objective of this Work Package is to develop, set
up, implement and optimise this process for effective industrial use by
an assembly of commercial and customised software. The following key
questions to be answered at the beginning of the work are:
- What exists as COTS (commercial off-the-shelf software)?
- What new software needs to be identified or written?
- Where is the greater value for industrial investment –
“tools” or the integration of tools into a “process”?
- How should tools be integrated – generic scripting-style
frameworks or customised code?
The focus of the industrial partner contribution in this Work Package
is mainly on specifications and on the definition of “Real World” test
cases. The major deliverable will be a framework within which is
implemented a CAD-to-mesh process built from both COTS & customised
software capable generating meshes automatically for intricate, real
geometries of industrial significance to the partners such as film
cooling holes or internal cooling air systems or internal plenum
channels or secondary gas paths and others. The work package will be
divided into the following six sub-tasks. The main responsible partner
for each task is the first participant (marked with bold). |
